This kit enables real-time monthly microbiological testing of Bubble Column water (and BCB effectiveness) by samplingTotal Viable Counts (TVCs),Coliform, and Enterobacteriaceae—a standard method in the Water Treatment Industry for detecting infection risks.

Simple process, no specialist training: count the dots and compare with the reference images to identify risks.

Steps

  1. Plug in the GNAT MX2 Incubator with the adaptor about 30 minutes before testing. The yellow indicator cycles as it warms up.
  2. Follow the instructions to take a sample. Avoid touching the paddle’s gel surface to prevent contamination. Prepare the sample before opening the slide.
  3. Sample the Bubble Column water using the following process

Hold the paddle top and gently twist and pull the tube free from paddle

Take a sample of water from the column in a clean disposable cup or mug, and dip paddle in for two to three seconds

Replace the paddle into the tube and slot into the incubator for 48 hours. Test up to two slides at a time

What It Means

For bubble columns, low or mediumTotal Viable Counts (TVCs)indicate proper maintenance and minimal risk. TVCs provide an overview of bacterial contamination. The lower the count, the lower the risk.Once incubation is complete, compare the slide with the guide below

On the buff colour agar, Total Viable Counts (TVCs) grow as red dots. Ideally, there should be no growth, or one or two spots as a maximum. The absolute maximum is shown in the medium, and indicates a safe bubble column.

Readings indicating high or very high need immediate water change and cleaning

Other Uses

The kit can also test surfaces like soft play. Press the gel side on a few areas, then incubate. TVCs show cleaning standards, while Coliform and Enterobacteriaceae indicate possible contamination from body fluids.
